BIG PROPS TO ABE MAYES AND UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE
First off, we want to thank Abe for his dedication on and off the Drift Tracks helping us set up the courses, moving cars, hanging banners, promoting, and simply "getting things done!" If it wasn't for Abe, we'd be spending endless hours lugging around tents and hauling bald tires.
Also, he can't stop talking about how amazing UTI is and how he gets to work on cars "hands on" as well as do something he really enjoys... CARS, FIXING UP CARS, and CARS! Especially his pride and joy... show winning "Betty" 2005 Mustang.
OK, so how does this tie into UTI, we'll... they are all about growing the grassroots automotive scene and will be supporting XDC in every way, bringing out one of their HOT RIDES and setting up shop to mix and mingle with all the fans at Irwindale. Nothing better than having a group of passionate souls all in one place... and that's exactly what is going down on March 20th at Irwindale.
See you there!

DIE-HARD DRIVERS OF THE XDC

So what do Kris Hackenson (owner of pink car) and Gleb Antonov (owner of blue car) have in common? Not the usual answer of having a similar vehicle make, but primarily both of these young cats have a passion for drifting, and as privateers, they are building their own rides to compete in XDC this year. Secondly, they are both thousands of miles away from Irwindale... Gleb from Washington and Kris from Illinois; yet the two are determined to compete in Southern California on March 20th, 2010. The third commonality amongst the two, is that they are totally rebuilding their rides from scratch with personal funds to ensure they make an impact on the drifting scene!
This is a similar story across the board with many drivers of the XDC, some traveling from Vegas, others from Texas, and even Mark Manansala traveling all the way from the New Jersey to represent the East Coast at the XDC season opener!
Now, we are not sure exactly what Kris or Gleb's drift cars will look like come Irwindale, but the word is, quite impressive! So will Gleb's car still have the same shade of blue or lighter, and rather than being a coupe, it could very well be a hatchback!? And Kris, I hear the paint in the works simply can't be identified at the moment as it has dozens of variations in the sun!
We at the XDC are extremely proud and excited to see these privateers travel the distance, and put hard effort into doing what they love to do... DRIFT baby DRIFT! We witnessed Forest Wang compete with his vehicle in 2009 against the best D1 Drivers from Japan, and he had no problem matching up or even placing at the top! So who else has the intensity and drive to make waves this year with minimal support other than passion and determination? Our guess is as good as yours, and there's only one way to find out... see you at the track!
